Event Highlights

  • On 8 May 2025, in alignment with National Compost Week, the ASMPT Weymouth team’s environmental committee completed a period of volunteering at the Tumbledown Community Growspace, where we upcycled existing materials and resources to construct a number of storage bays that would be used to store compost on site. In the same session, we also discussed the feasibility of other volunteering projects, including the construction of a on-site compostable toilet and a bicycle-power water pump for moving water around the site.
  • The main objectives of this event were to complete a compost-related volunteering project during national compost week, and to establish a working relationship with Alan , the owner of Tumbledown site. Both have been achieved, and the relationship now established with Alan is something ASMPT with utilize both in future volunteering with this set of students this year, and with following student cohorts in coming years.
  • Both Tumbledown and the ASMPT students benefitted from this event. Tumbledown gained a piece of infrastructure they had been planning to implement for a while now, without having to spend their limited budget on any new building resources. ASMPT students also gained experience in project planning, procurement, material management and teamwork and delegation.
